Help for parents with the child custody process

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2018 | Co-Parenting And Child Custody

Child custody is a concern on the minds of many divorcing parents in Massachusetts. The divorce process can be challenging for families, parents and children but can take a special toll on children which is why parents should understand how the child custody process in Massachusetts work and the options available to help them through that process.

The family law process provides many different and flexible resources to help divorcing spouses address and resolve their child custody and co-parenting concerns in a way that is in the best interests of the child and works for the different and unique situation and circumstances each family is in. Different tools, including negotiation, mediation or collaborative law divorce, can help divorcing couples address child custody concerns in the most efficient, and least acrimonious, way possible.

Generally, a child custody agreement will support both parents remaining active and present in the child’s life unless there is some reason not to support that. Following a child custody agreement, circumstances may change down the road which is why parents should also have a heads up about the child custody modification process, what that entails and when a modification can be granted. Modifications can also be agreed to and that is another benefit of negotiation, mediation or collaborative divorce options because they can provide a foundation and framework for later negotiations and modification concerns.

Divorcing parents have a lot on their mind and child custody and how they will co-parent are concerns that are likely at the top of their minds. Fortunately, the family law process recognizes this and provides resources to help them take care of those concerns.
